A Crack in the fold

The iPhone fold has only been out for 6 days total, yet in those six days a small batch of duo’s have begun surfacing with a crack along the middle of the fold and hinge. These devices have all shown the crack forming in the same spot along the crease and has been documented by not only Ifixit but also Apple themselves as well.

The IPhone Duo’s hinge, though almost similar to the Z fold 8’s hinge, was made with different styling to give it a more rigid and stiff opening and closing emotion. This is why if you open the duo and z fold 8, the duo has a more robust and stable hinge mechanism while the z fold 8 gives way and falls back without a way to keep it propped up. This issue is being shown in a small batch, though nobody is sure if this affects all early units that were shipped on launch day or not. My personal Duo has not had this issue thankfully. Reports are showing that customers who have had this issue remember the hinge feeling hard to open and hearing a pop when the hinge broke and gave way. A first generation device this is definitely.

Going over this product tells us that apple has work to do. Luckily most stores are covering this issue with a free repair or replacement. More will come from this predicament in the coming weeks to show if this is truly a major issue or just a small hiccup in the new world of apple foldables.

This isn’t a tie in to tell everyone who ordered a duo to cancel your order. those who have later shipment dates more than likely will not have this issue. Though if you are looking to cancel and still want the folding lifestyle, I can recommend it’s competitor the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8! it has nearly the same size and format as the duo and gives you more freedom for customizing your device to your liking. Both are also very near the same price point as well.
